Viveros: Dark, Evocative Art on Cotton Tees

by Karmaloop Rep Code

Viveros is an apparel line celebrating the artwork of fetish artist Brian M. Viveros.

Viveros is internationally embraced for his erotic paintings of doe-eyed beauties with Marlboros dangling seductively from their lips. He is also a well-renowned filmmaker of dark and evocative themes.

Gracing numerous gallery exhibitions all over North America and Europe, Viveros shines a light on his own inner world and society at large through a drunken mix of oil, airbrush, acrylic and ink. Through his paintings, Viveros aims to captivate even the most jaded eyes.

Viveros shot into prominence when he participated in “The Art of Porn” exhibition in Zürich, Switzerland in 1997. Art aficionados were also bedazzled by his work at GenArt’s Vanguard Fair in 2008 and Aqua Art Miami in 2009.

Viveros’ work has been featured in various media platforms, including books such as “Carnivora: The Dark Art Of Automobiles” by Les Barany, “Edgy Cute: From Neo-Pop to Low Brow and Back Again” by Harry Saylor and Carolyn Frisch, “Weirdo Noir” by Matt Jordan, and “The World’s Greatest Erotic Art of Today – Vol. 1 and Vol. II” by Erotic Signature.

On TLC’s reality show “LA Ink”, artist Nikko Hurtado tattooed one of Viveros’ paintings onto a client. Publications that have covered Viveros and his art include Tattoo Society, Dark Art’s Parlour Magazine, Revolution Art, Iniciativa Colectiva, Fetish Magazine, Juxtapoz, In the Flesh, Skin Two, Drawing Blood, Darks Art, Tattoo Extreme, Digital Temple, and Real Detroit Weekly.

Viveros made his directing debut in 2005 with his quietly eerie, boldly stylized short film “Dislandia”, a psycho-drama about a young girl who exists in a desolate world full of dreamlike images that range from bizarre to symbolic and erotic. His latest surreal film “Southern” is an experience of primordial sights, sounds, and sentiment, blanketed by a fog of troubling eroticism and violence. Sundance Channel’s “Pleasure for Sale” recently showed a behind the scenes look into the making of Southern.

Viveros’ most recent works include a painting for the “Obey your Master” exhibition of Metallica and the “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me” 20th Anniversary Exhibition of director David Lynch.
