Brand History

G-Shock is the timepiece line of Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer, Casio. The line was created by engineer, Kikuo Ibe in 1984 and was shortly released after. Known for its almost supernatural durability, ability to resist water and vibration but are super lightweight and stylish, G-Shock watches were true marvel of engineering then and now. The first collection caused quite a stir in its native Japan because of the unconventional designs and bleeding technology behind every piece. The watches featured countdown timer, water resistance up to 200m and in the following collections after it, bleeding tech including Tough Solar Power and Atomic Timekeeping, etc.

Tough Exterior/High Tech Interior

In the early 80s, you can’t wear a good watch and expect it to survive extreme rough and tumble. But Casio completely obliterated the notion that watches are delicate pieces of jewelry that should be worn with care. G-Shock’s design offers an extremely hardy exterior that can withstand various conditions including being tossed several feet below the ground, surviving chilly and extremely hot weather, etc. The G-Shock watch line officially passed the Triple Ten criteria, namely the 10 years of usage, 10 atmospheres for water resistance and 10m fall for shock resistance. From the 80s to the 90s G-Shock dominated the timepiece industry and the technology behind it just kept getting better and better, no other timepiece brand can replicate it.

More than two decades after it was launched, G-Shock still continues to surprise people with its ever changing colorways and unmatched durability. G-Shock come in various models including the classic  G-Shock line, the Baby G line, which is targeted for women, the Pathfinder collection, Master G, Tough Solar, Wave Ceptor, Cockpit series and the G-lide.

G-Shock 2013 Spring/Summer Collection

This season, G-Shock gives a mixed bag of something old and something new. The collection includes classic takes on old favorites like the DW-6900, the GA-300A from the popular GA-100 line and the GA-1000 editions or the Sky Cockpit collection. Rounding up the collection is the blackened out GD-101NS-1JR, which is a collaborative item between Casio G-Shock and BMX rider Nigel Sylvester.
