Free People

Brand History

Free People is a West Philadelphia clothing company initially introduced in 1970s by the same group of designers that gave us Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie and Bulldog streetwear, Dick Hayne and his wife Meg. Initially, Free People was made for people who want more freedom in terms of the stuff they want to wear. When the Free People brand became super successful, they changed the name to “Urban Outfitters” and we know how massively successful this brand is until now.

But despite the popularity of Urban Outfitters, the unique appeal and distinct designs of Free People was something that even the former cannot replicate. So Dick and his wife, Meg, reprised the brand and Free People made a successful comeback in 2001. This time, however, the brand shed its junior image with designs that are more mature. Free People clothing offers a selection of edgy, funky dresses and tops for the modern woman. Free People clothing has over 1000 specialty boutiques across the world and is available in Nordstrom and Bloomingdales as well as through online retail stores like Karmaloop.com.
