Claw Money From Street to Boutique

by Karmaloop Rep Code

fashionGraffiti artist Claudia Gold, a.k.a. Claw Money, has taken her signature paw print from the walls and trains of New York to the sketch pad – creating her eponymous line of tanks, shirts and dresses that evoke a luxurious lifestyle with an edge.

Claw Money tops and sunglasses have been worn by some of the most stylish celebrities, including MIA, Santigold, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna.

From the streets of New York to high fashion boutiques

Back in the 80s and 90s, Claw Money was known for her iconic fat paw with three claws signature which could be seen all over the New York graffiti landscape. She was spunky and steadfast – traits that helped her stamp her class in a scene dominated by male crews.

When Gold moved to Los Angeles in 1995, she became a vintage dealer while working as a fashion editor and director at Swindle Magazine. Spending her pre-graff years at the Fashion Institute of Technology enabled Claudia to easily transition to high-fashion design. She moved back to New York in 1997 and started her own line named after her graffiti signature.

Claw Money designs

Unlike most street artists who design clothing lines based on their graff art, Claw Money does not consider her collection ‘graffiti clothing’. Claw Money is a symbol that represents a lot of things – street art, New York City, women, pet lovers, and more – delivered in a fun and boisterous aesthetic.

With graphic designs that are influenced by childhood icons such as Peter Max, the Smurfs, Strawberry Shortcake, Bugs Bunny, comic books, Hello Kitty, video games, and pop culture in general, Claw Money appeals to both men and women, young and old.

In addition to making graphic tees and sweatshirts, Claw Money has expanded her line to eyewear, bags, jewelry and accessories.

Claw Money collaborations

Claw Money has been part of collaborations with major brands including Mark Ecko, Boost, and My Little Pony. She has created Claw Money lingerie and sleepwear for Calvin Klein, Claw Money snowboards for K2 Mix, and limited edition Claw Money sneakers for Vans and Nike.

Claw Money can be found at exclusive retailers such as Colette Paris, Patricia Field New York, and Fred Segal Santa Monica.
