Native Shoes Lightweight versions of your favorite styles

by Karmaloop Rep Code

Inspired by the old classics that we love but crafted using the lightest and most comfortable material available, Native shoes offer the best of both worlds: shoes for the future designed in the styles we love.

The Native aesthetic is relaxed, flexible and active. Slip them on for a quick stroll or throw them into your backpack for a day at the beach. Native Shoes can be worn by anybody, anywhere, anytime.

NativeBrand history

Native Shoes was created by Damian Van Zyll De Jong in 2009. Growing up in the skate and snow culture of West Vancouver, Damian always loved shoes. He was constantly on the hunt for something better for his feet. Tired of the usual kicks sold on the casual market, Damian decided to launch his own brand with one goal in mind: to create a casual shoe line that was comfortable, functional, and, most of all, unique.

Damian began experimenting with ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), a polymer often used for soccer cleats and running midsoles. Damian felt that EVA had the potential to be something cool because of its soft, flexible, lightweight, and odorless characteristics. Injection molded EVA is also washable, antimicrobial, environment friendly, and easily molds to the feet for ultimate comfort even in rugged terrain. Want to know more information about Karmaloop? Inspired by the classics

The Native Shoes line started with three styles that pay homage to popular shoe icons: the Jefferson is patterned after the Converse Chucks, the Corrado model is based on the Clark Wallabee, and the Miller looks like your favorite Vans Era pair.

The collection expanded to six more styles – the Fitzsimmons is inspired by your old reliable hiking shoe, the Howard is a different take on the classic boat shoe, the Jericho is a breathable tennis shoe, the Paddington is a modern laced-up version of the Wellington boot, and the waterproof Jimmy boot is a collaboration project with designer Marc Jacobs.

In 2011, the Canadian Design Resource listed the Jimmy boot among its Top 10 Best Designs of the year.

This season, your favorite moccasins are making a comeback in EVA via the Verona and Hugo, while the best-selling loafers of yesteryear are getting a softer makeover in the Paolo and Blanca.

Actress Portia de Rossi, rapper Yonas Michael, industrial designer Karim Rashid, and South Park creator Trey Parker are just some of the celebrities who have been spotted rocking Native shoes. Native Kids are also a hit among the next generation of trendsetters, including Pax and Maddox Jolie-Pitt.
